An advising hold prevents students from registering for classes until they see an advisor. In the Department of Chemistry, all majors are required to meet with their academic advisor during both the fall and spring semesters before their registration appointment for the following fall or spring. This ensures that out majors have all the relevant information they need to create their class schedules. No advising holds are placed on majors' accounts for the summer sessions, so students can register for classes in the summer semesters without meeting with an advisor (although they are certainly welcome to meet with an advisor to discuss summer courses if they wish). To have your advising hold cleared, acces the Online Advising Appointment Scheduler above to schedule an appointment with the chemistry academic advisor.
*Note: Students who have not yet been certified into the College of Arts & Sciences as chemistry or biochemistry majors (those who are in the University Division or another administrative division of Indiana Univeristy) will not have an advising hold placed by the Department of Chemistry. However, they may have an advising hold placed by their current administrative division. Students in this situation will need to see an academic advisor in their administrative division in order to release the advising hold. That being said, all students are welcome to meet with the academic advisor in the Department of Chemistry in addition to their current academic advisor if they have specific questions pertaining to the chemistry or biochemistry majors or the chemistry minor.
